A journey off the beaten track

Atypical Wines was born in the industrial heart of Secunda, not from traditional wineyards but from the shared passion of four friends—Melvin, Danie, Stefan, and Emil. Their journey began during South Africa's strict Covid lockdown, where for 35 days they gathered virtually each night, tasting wines and strengthening their bonds. From these pajama-clad gatherings emerged the vision for Atypical Wines.

Despite lacking a traditional winemaking setting, they persevered. Danie engineered bespoke stainless steel barrels, while Emil, Melvin, and Stefan contributed their unique expertise. Together, they created wines that challenge conventions while respecting tradition.

Their Atypical Red reimagines Pinotage as lighter and more approachable, while their white blend of Chenin Blanc and Sémillon offers complexity and structure. These wines embody their philosophy: exploration beyond the expected.

Atypical Wines celebrates connection—wines meant to be shared over family dinners and braais with friends. It's about bringing people together, sharing the joy of discovery, and daring to dream. Born from friendship and adventure, Atypical Wines invites you to step off the beaten track and discover what lies beyond.

Wine flies when you're having fun.
